Public participation is a central part of the EIA process because it brings in local knowledge, values, and concerns that experts alone might miss, which helps create a more accurate and acceptable assessment. Engaging stakeholders throughout the process—during scoping, impact identification, mitigation development, and review—improves the quality of the analysis and the credibility of the findings. When the public is involved early and consistently, potential conflicts are understood and addressed before decisions are finalized, reducing backlash and delays later on. If participation is treated as optional or only happens after a decision is made, important local perspectives are left out and the resulting plan is less likely to reflect true conditions or gain community support.
